Icy weather

On December 25 a strange phenomenon occurred that according to reports hasn't happened for over 30 years others say they haven't seen it in their lifetime. Snow that was falling somewhere in the atmosphere encountered a layer of warm air that melted the snow and it fell as freezing rain. On impact with frozen surfaces it turned to ice that coated everything. Trees looked like glass. Extremely beautiful but extremely dangerous as it also coated roads and walkways turning them into ice rinks. Many traffic accidents occurred as cars slid out of control  and pedestrians sustained fractures and sprains on the ice covered paths. Power lines snapped either from the weight of the ice or from falling trees that snapped also under the ice load. Trees are bowed down looking like a frozen forest caught in a deep freeze. Along the main road outside Podolsk the tree forests look amazing even the locals are camera happy and amazed at the sight that has now lasted more than 2 weeks.Transport that usually copes with severe weather encountered difficulties and there were many power and heating disruptions. Dubrovitsy Church

Today we caught a bus to the outskirts of town to visit the Dubrovitsy Church set on a hill on a bank where two rivers meet. It is very old  built in the late 1600's of and its foundations are slowly being restored.
18 Century Manor House nearby

Who's the headless statue?
Gathering clouds
Restoration in progress. Crumbling foundations.
Bells
Details of the carved white stone
Saint peter found a church!

Let's go and find out what's on the hill?
We think it must be the secret of wedded bliss. Tie the knot and lock it in. Couple must come here on their wedding day.
Pasha & Lena did.
Shall we do it too?
Ops this one mustn't have lasted!

For an interesting experience have a look at this link for an interactive view of the interior of the church.
