A stroll in the Park

Having completed the tasks which we had come to Moscow to do that day, we set out on the Metro to Park Pobedy Station for Victory Park located on an historical site that once commanded a vista of all Moscow and it's surrounds. It is said that travelers would hesitate here for the first or last glympse of the great city to pay homage. Here Napoleon waited in vain to be given the keys of the city.
Somewhat of a 'jaw dropping' exhibition in the Soviet tradition of monumental Triumphal art! It spreads over 135 hectares and is loaded with symoblism. It is dedicated to the victory over the Nazi in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945 and the untimate defeat of Napoleon in 1812.

Central avenue (called the years of war) there are 5 terraces for the 5 years of conflict. In total there are 1418 fountains one for every day of conflict. (they glow scarlet at night)
The displays in the crescent shaped museum are a sobering reminder of the distructive brutality of war. Books of remberance represent the 26 million soviet war dead.
The obelisk that towers 141.8 meters high (10 cm for every day of the war)  St George is seen slaying the Nazi dragon that is cut in pieces.
And of course a Triumphal Arch!
