We visited the Tsaritsyno museum and reserve on the outskirts of Moscow with Sergey and thousands of other people (as it was a public holiday) one late spring afternoon.
An interesting estate bought by empress Catherine the Great . In 1776-85 a new palace for the Empress was built. However she was dissatisfied with most of the structures and odered it to be partly pulled down in 1786
Around the palace and in the park there are a number of pavilions, pergolas, arbours, artificial grottos, decorative bridges and the ruins of foundations of buildings from the past. For a long time most buildings were ruined but recently many have been restored. The atrium of the “Bread House” is used for concerts of Moscow musicians. The day we were there there was a huge piano concert with several grand pianos on the open stage enjoyed by hundreds sitting on the lawns.
